Coastal Carolina visits Delaware to open Saturday’s college football schedule. Kickoff is at 11:30 a.m. ET on September 19 at Delaware Stadium, with CBS Sports Network carrying the game.

Both teams are 1-1. The Chanticleers beat Fordham 45-7 last week, while Delaware returns home after losing 35-26 at Vanderbilt, a game the Blue Hens led at halftime.

I’m backing the over. Delaware showed enough offensive quality at Vanderbilt to make its scoring potential at home appealing, and Coastal has a quarterback capable of answering through the air.

Deuce Bailey has thrown for 576 yards and six touchdowns through two games. The former Missouri State quarterback is still building consistency in Ryan Beard’s offense, but the early touchdown production gives Coastal a way to stay competitive without grinding out long rushing drives.

Delaware can attack in more than one way. Jo Silver ran for 109 yards on 16 carries against Vanderbilt, while Da’Wain Lofton caught four passes for 142 yards. Those performances came against an SEC opponent, making them more useful here than simply relying on last week’s Coastal blowout.

Silver’s rushing success is important to the total. If Delaware can make Coastal respect the run, it should create opportunities for Nick Minicucci to find receivers beyond the first-down marker. The Blue Hens do not need to throw on every down to produce quick scoring drives.

Minicucci battled inconsistency last week, going just 11 for 27 with a touchdown and two interceptions. In Week 1 against FCS Merrimack, Minicucci threw for 330 yards and two touchdowns, adding an additional score on the ground.
