The Atlanta Braves (94-68 SU, 52-29 Home, 74-75-9 O/U) put the Philadelphia Phillies (88-74 SU, 45-36 Road, 73-77-8 O/U) on the brink of elimination with a 5-3 win in Game 1 of their best-of-three Wild Card series on Tuesday afternoon. On Wednesday, Atlanta will send Tyler Mahle (7-10, 3.99 ERA, 1.23 WHIP) to the mound looking to finish the job.

The Phillies will counter with Cristopher Sánchez (18-7, 2.91 ERA, 1.20 WHIP) as they look to keep their season alive. In the current best-of-three Wild Card era, only one of 16 teams that lost Game 1 came back to win the series.

First pitch for Game 2 is once again set for 2:00 pm ET at Truist Park in Atlanta.

With 18-game winner Sánchez on the bump, the Phillies are slight -104 favorites to win Game 2 at Kalshi (51 cents). The Braves come back at even-money (50 cents) to sweep the best-of-three on Wednesday.

Austin Riley was the Game 1 hero, launching a go-ahead, three-run home run in the eighth to turn a 3-2 deficit into a 5-3 lead. The homer came off Philadelphia’s top reliever, Jhoan Duran, who pitched two full innings and will likely be unavailable for Game 2.

A handful of Atlanta hitters have a strong track record against Sánchez.

The heart of Atlanta’s order has tracked Sánchez exceptionally well over their careers, with Ozzie Albies, Austin Riley, Ronald Acuña Jr, and Marcell Ozuna all batting over .375 with significant extra-base production against the left-hander.

While Mahle has neutralized Philadelphia’s left-handed outfield bats like Bryson Stott and Brandon Marsh, right-handed core hitters JT Realmuto, Trea Turner, and Alec Bohm have combined to bat .467 (14-for-30) against him.
